You will see someone with a red sign on with the inscription “ALMA” and there will be a picture with a red heart. We will go straight to Vama Veche, but it is possible to make also a scenic drive through some resorts, depending on the events which take place on the road and how crowded the traffic is.
The village of Vama Veche was founded in 1811. During the communist dictatorship, the village was not visited by tourists. The phenomenon of “Vama Veche” (good music, bohemian spirit, a certain intellectual touch) arose in the 70s, when Cluj-Napoca’s Babe\u0219-Bolyai University sent professors to relax here every summer. They arrived in organized groups by bus and stayed in the homes of local people. At that time about 70 families lived in the village. The university students ate daily in the canteen set up by the university (now an abandoned building), where dishes were prepared by chefs who also came from Cluj. The University of Cluj also built two showers with very large water tanks mounted on poles. One shower was installed in the courtyard of the canteen, the other was on the way to the beach and the former casemate. In the evening they gathered on the beach, where bonfires were made, discussions were held and Romanian, French and English songs were played on the guitar. The groups changed every ten days. Filming was also carried out in Vama Veche for various Romanian films. This openness, brought by the Cluj intellectuals and the Romanian actors, created the intellectual-bohemian atmosphere of the place during this period and offered the locals the opportunity to come into contact with high-quality events and people.
Elena Ceau\u0219escu, the wife of the former dictator, who was traveling to Bulgaria with an official convoy, during a visit in the summer of 1988, was deeply disturbed by the appearance of the fishing village (a place with reeds and puddles, with few inhabitants, mostly poor people) and decided to demolish the houses. The action began in 1989 when a few more wealthy houses, the school and the church disappeared and the entire village was to be razed to the ground. Locals stayed in their homes during the demolition to save them and force the authorities to leave them alone. Some of them suffered heart attacks in their own homes when the demolition bulldozer came near them. Luckily, the Romanian Revolution of 1989 managed to save the village from destruction. Immediately after the revolution, some enterprising families from Ploie\u015fti and Bucharest came here and founded the first small local businesses, restaurants or eateries, which today have developed and changed a lot.
Until the late 1990s, Vama Veche was known as a fishing village whose beach was little known to tourists and was most popular with nudists. However, in the last 10 years, the place has experienced a strong influx of tourists, which has completely changed its old appearance with the emergence of new buildings and commercial spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Das Dorf Vama Veche wurde 1811 gegr\u00fcndet. W\u00e4hrend der kommunistischen Diktatur wurde das Dorf nicht von Touristen besucht. Das Ph\u00e4nomen \u201eVama Veche\u201c (gute Musik, Boh\u00e8me-Geist, eine gewisse intellektuelle Note) entstand in den 70er Jahren, als die Babe\u0219-Bolyai-Universit\u00e4t aus Cluj-Napoca jeden Sommer Hochschullehrer zur Erholung hierher schickte. Sie kamen in organisierten Gruppen mit dem Bus an und wohnten in den H\u00e4usern der Einheimischen. Zu dieser Zeit lebten etwa 70 Familien im Dorf. Die Universit\u00e4tsstudenten a\u00dfen t\u00e4glich in der von der Universit\u00e4t eingerichteten Kantine (heute ein verlassenes Geb\u00e4ude), wo die Gerichte von K\u00f6chen zubereitet wurden, die ebenfalls aus Cluj kamen. Die Universit\u00e4t Cluj baute au\u00dferdem zwei Duschen mit sehr gro\u00dfen, auf Stangen montierten Wassertanks. Eine Dusche war im Innenhof der Kantine installiert, die andere befand sich auf dem Weg zum Strand und zur ehemaligen Kasematte. Am Abend versammelten sie sich am Strand, wo Lagerfeuer gemacht wurden, Diskussionen gef\u00fchrt und rum\u00e4nische, franz\u00f6sische und englische Lieder auf der Gitarre gespielt wurden. Die Gruppen wechselten alle zehn Tage. Auch f\u00fcr verschiedene rum\u00e4nische Filme wie \u201eMihai Viteazul\u201c oder \u201eZodia Fecioarei\u201c wurden in Vama Veche Dreharbeiten durchgef\u00fchrt. Diese von den Intellektuellen aus Cluj und den rum\u00e4nischen Schauspielern mitgebrachte Offenheit schuf in dieser Zeit die intellektuell-bohemische Atmosph\u00e4re des Ortes und bot den Einheimischen die M\u00f6glichkeit, mit hochwertigen Ereignissen und Menschen in Kontakt zu kommen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bis zum Ende der 1990er Jahre war Vama Veche als Fischerdorf bekannt, dessen Strand bei Touristen wenig bekannt war und vor allem bei Nudisten beliebt war. In den letzten 10 Jahren erlebte der Ort jedoch einen starken Zustrom von Touristen, der sein altes Erscheinungsbild durch die Entstehung neuer Geb\u00e4ude und Gewerbefl\u00e4chen v\u00f6llig ver\u00e4nderte.
